    Thanks for stopping by sweetfrenchtoast!

I'm Sabrina, and I love sewing and creative DIY projects for a modern handmade life. Whether I'm sewing a new dress, baking a fresh twist on a classic dessert, or making my own barn door headboard, I'll share all the pain and glory right here on my sweet little blog. Enjoy!

sewing chair makeover with Ikea fabric

A few months ago, RH and I were visiting his grandmother when I spotted the cutest little chair in her basement. I loved its lines, and when I learned that it was a vintage sewing chair and featured a hidden storage compartment under the seat, I was in love!

She was very gracious and let me bring it home that day. Since then, I’ve been on the lookout for upholstery weight fabric to use to recover the chair. I’ve never recovered a chair, nor have I ever used upholstery fabric for anything, so I’ve been pretty clueless as to what I’m looking for.

Then, on a recent trip to Ikea, I discovered their fabric department! And all of it was on sale! So a few nights ago, I attacked the little sewing chair and am pretty pleased with the outcome.

I’ve still got some finishing work to do, like securing all the fabric with upholstery tacks or staples (right now, it’s a testament to the wonders of a hot glue gun). But it’s perfectly functional and super cute for now. I love it!
