messin’ with letterpress

It’s been crazy busy (as usual), but I’ve made time to take a letterpress class and make our wedding invitations! It’s been a ton of fun, and a lot of work, but I am thrilled to finally be learning an artform that I’ve admired for so long.

I took this photo last week when I letterpressed the invitations. I mixed a “spring green” that looked a lot brighter on the press than it did on the paper (Crane’s 100% cotton, thick and velvety good stuff). This week, I did the return address flap on the envelopes and the thank-you notes. I’m working on a press that’s really, really old (most of them are), and it was very temperamental printing the thank-you notes. So I’m going to try those again next week.

Anyway, just a quick check-in to let you know I’m still alive and kicking. :)

April 16, 2009 - 9:12 am kathleen - Hey! I am also in Atlanta and just saw that the atlanta printmakers studio offers letterpress classes. Is that where you took yours? And do you think you saved money on your invitations by doing so? I LOVE letterpress but definitely can't afford it, and it would be so cool to learn how to do it myself! I'd love to hear any thoughts you have on your class and your invitation-making process. Thanks!
