I’m a marathoner.

Well, I am.

Okay, so what if my one and only marathon event was back in 2002? I finished a marathon, dammit, and I am still proud of it.

I had never run a marathon before. I had never gone farther than 6.2 miles in the Peachtree Road Race. But when I attended a Team in Training info session, thinking I’d maybe consider doing a half-marathon, I was so inspired that I signed up to train for a marathon on the spot. Without hesitation. And it was one of the best experiences of my life.

I completed the Bermuda Marathon in January of 2002, and since then, I’ve done three half-marathons and a few Peachtrees. I don’t know if I’ll ever do another marathon. It was incredibly challenging, intensely painful, but even more rewarding. Especially doing it through Team in Training…I knew I was supporting a great cause.

I’ve often told RH that he should do a marathon. I think that with the support of a training program like Team in Training, anyone can complete a distance event. Heck, if he wanted to do a marathon, I just might lace up my shoes and train with him.

Anyway, the point of this reminiscent post is to let y’all know that my friend JH is doing Team in Training to raise funds and train for the ING Georgia Marathon. It’s that time of year when you might be thinking about making additional charitable donations for 2008, so why not throw a little fundage his way?

I remember how motivating it was for me to get donations to support my training. I knew I couldn’t give up—even when it meant running 10 miles in the freezing dark of night by myself after work—because I couldn’t let down my supporters.

So here I am now…nearly seven years later…and I’m thinking I should probably get up early to work off those chicken enchiladas I had for dinner tonight.

I am looking forward to reading about JH’s training on his blog. Hopefully it will motivate me to get off my duff! I have a wedding dress to get into! :)
