history in the making

Vote!

I hope you voted today! (Or last week, or the week before.) I actually voted two weeks ago, and I’m glad I was able to make it happen with plenty of time to spare.

It’s kinda weird, but I have the same feeling I had when I watched the Challenger burst into pieces and when I saw the Twin Towers fall. But this time it’s on the total opposite end of the spectrum of emotions. When I watched those other events happen, I knew I was witnessing history. But it was devastatingly horrible and sad.

Tonight, I’m once again watching history in the making. Heck, I’m now a part of history in the making. But this time, it’s a really positive feeling…full of pride and hope. Even though I do not agree with some of my friends and associates, I admire the passion they’ve displayed throughout this election. No matter which way the election goes (because it ain’t over till the fat lady sings), I am in awe of the record numbers of people who stood in line for hours—many of them for the first time in their lives—and talked about the issues and helped get out the vote for their candidate of choice.

That, my friends, is pretty freakin’ awesome. :)

Happy Election Day 2008. I think we’re going to remember this one for a long, long time.

(I’m creating a “politics” tag for the first time on my blog. Just goes to show how unpolitical I usually am!)
