a real weekend, for once

I am celebrating a real weekend for a change. Yesterday, RH and I enjoyed the annual Inman Park Festival. We walked a few blocks from my place to Inman Park, strolled the booth-packed streets, watched the parade (which included this creepy rabbit…photo by RH), and toured some really, really nice homes. It was a really pleasant day.

Today, RH was a gem (as usual) and took my mom to church and worked on her house a bit while I went to a baby shower for a former coworker. It was fun seeing some of the old gang from my last job, and the expectant mom looks great and very happy.

I had to leave the shower a little early because today was Friends and Family Day at the senior center that my mom attends. RH, Mom and I headed over there and were greeted with a packed house and really loud hip hop music. Keep in mind, this is a senior center. These seniors know how to get down! They served lunch (although it’s hard to call a 4 o’clock meal “lunch”) and held a raffle. Mom won a coaster-digital clock combination. I’m really glad we were able to go — the center has made a HUGE difference in Mom’s quality of life and I am incredibly thankful for it. Because she can’t drive, she would otherwise be stuck at home if it weren’t for the center and the transportation they provide (they pick her up and take her home). She plays bingo, socializes, takes shopping trips, learns about health issues, and more. It really is a fantastic service, and I was glad to be able to thank the staff and volunteers in person today.

We’re almost done with Mom’s house. I’m looking forward to having more “real” weekends again!
