Today was not a bad day, but it wasn’t a good day, either.
I finally went to the doctor for the dizziness and lightheadedness I’ve been experiencing for the past few weeks, ever since I flew back from the Cayman Islands. I learned that my blood pressure is lower than usual…about 90-something over 60. The doctor also heard a heart murmur every six beats or so. Apparently I am very dehydrated, and my brain isn’t getting enough oxygen. There aren’t enough fluids in my body, which means there’s not enough volume to my blood, which means that my heart is trying to squeeze out what’s left, and not enough of it is making its way to my brain.
Awesome.
This means that I am sitting out the Peachtree Road Race on Wednesday. It’s the second time I’ve had to stay home due to medical reasons. The last time was when I had meningitis a few years ago (that sucked). I don’t want to risk passing out or worse, as I’m sure the race will be hot and I’m obviously not hydrated enough to run 6.2 miles in the heat.
To top off that news, I came home to find my place flooded again. I bought a mop at Target and hate it. So now I have a crappy mop, a recurring flooding issue, and a heart murmur.
Tomorrow has to be better.
In the morning, I’m taking Mom to a physical therapy session prescribed by her doctor a few weeks ago. She was experiencing some leg pain after a fall, so hopefully the therapy will help strengthen her limbs. We’ll see how it goes…I’m optimistic about it.
Meanwhile, I feel like crying, but I can’t.
I don’t know if that’s good or bad.
I live in Atlanta, Georgia, and work as a
Hey Sab,
I have been dehydrated before, and I just carry around my Nalgene and drink from it. I try to finish at least two a day.
Sorry you have to sit out the run and I’m sorry about the flooding too. I hope that other things are good with you!
Sab! What is going on?! Sorry to hear about all that ails you. I think you need some R&R very soon. Is that happening in the forseeable future??
Chuq, thanks for the tip. I need to find my pink Nalgene bottle. I’ve been using a nasty paper cup but I’ve been drinking — and peeing — a lot! I really appreciate your nice words and support.
And Red, I could use some R&R…some serious R&R, not these little long weekends here and there which are always really busy anyway. I am going to try to make this happen soon.
