welcome to the family!

I got another camera.

Canon SD800 IS

Isn’t it cute?

It gets terrific reviews. It’s got some killer features, and the image quality is fantastic. It’s replacing my beloved S400, which I got three years ago this December. That S400 has been through a lot…literally. I have dropped that thing in the snow, tumbled down mountains with it, lurched it around inside my purse, and subjected it to many smoky nights in clubs. It still works great, but I suppose I was starting to see the difference between my S400 and my 30D a little too much (I know, I know…crazy comparison!).

Anyway, I’m retiring the S400…I guess I’ll put it on eBay, unless any of you want to take it off my hands for $75. :)

But yeah…there’s a new pursecam in town.

This is the sixth Canon digital camera I’ve owned (not counting my Canon miniDV cam). That’s a lot of Canon digital cameras! I’ve owned an S10, G3, S400, G6, 30D, and now this SD800 IS. W00t!

I’m already looking forward to taking pics with it! I’m trying to decide if I’m going to take my 30D to Whistler next month. On the one hand, what a fantastic photo opportunity! On the other hand, I don’t know if I want to lug it along with my snowboard, gear, helmet, luggage, etc. from Atlanta to Vancouver. So the new cam may get thrown into the fire and serve as my only camera on this trip.

I dunno…I’m still undecided.

Thoughts?

And some of you may be wondering if this is the same camera I recently purchased as a birthday gift…? It is. As I was researching, I was so impressed by this little cam that I decided to make it my own too. :)

January 8, 2007 - 2:24 am whistler trip report at sweetfrenchtoast - [...] Meanwhile, I woke up later that morning trying to decide if I wanted to go out for one last time or not. I was leaning heavily towards sleeping in after the celebration the night before, but when I looked out the window and saw quarter-sized snowflakes just dumping on the village, I knew I had to get out there. I geared up in record time and asked for late checkout on my way to the slopes. Apparently everyone else was still hungover because the gondola line was non-existent and the runs were empty. So it was fresh tracks for me and just a handful of other people! It was actually really hard to ride on the powder…it was so heavy and dense that I kept getting stuck and toppling over at low speed. I met a guy from Kentucky—I recognized his southern accent—who tried to give me tips on leaning back and keeping up my speed). It was fun though…I’m so glad I went out there one last time. The only bad thing about it happened when I was getting one last shot of me and my snowboard. A kind tourist took this photo and, as she handed my camera back, I heard the lens grind to a halt. Yep, it broke. I wish I had been able to take more photos of the snow…it really looked like a shaken snowglobe the way snowflakes were falling and swirling. [...]

May 18, 2010 - 11:24 pm wow. it’s been a while. at sweetfrenchtoast - [...] In other big news, I got a new camera! And it’s not just any camera. I’ve finally made the leap to a full-frame sensor dSLR. And since I’m a very loyal Canon user, I got the camera I’ve been dreaming of for many moons now…the 5D Mark II. Because my walkabout lens for the 30D won’t fit the new camera, I also had to get a lens, so I got the kit lens and have my hands on L glass for the first time. [...]
