feeling a wee bit better

Tagged , ,

I’ve been feeling a little better lately, thank goodness. It’s weird, but I feel like I’m either getting used to the fact that my dad is gone or I have been too distracted by other mundane things to think about it. I’m not sure I like either explanation for it, to be honest, but I have been feeling less hopeless and desperate. That is a good thing.

This morning I dropped Mom off to meet her sister and brother-in-law so she can spend the day with them. They are going to take her to an acupuncturist to see if treatment can help her partially paralyzed right limbs. Hey, I’m up for anything if it has a chance to help her. I’ll be interested to see how it goes. I don’t know how many times she will need to be treated to know if it’s actually working or not though. I guess we’ll see.

We finally got the death certificates…finally. Seriously. It took over a month to get them, which is way too long considering you can’t file for anything without them. So I got some benefits forms in the mail yesterday and faxed over to the VA. It will be nice to have all the paperwork finished soon…hopefully within the next week or two. There really is so much administrative junk surrounding all this…it’s kind of annoying. No, it’s really annoying. Not only do I need to take care of all the benefits claims and my dad’s estate stuff, but I also need to try to file for Social Security benefits for my mom and other things like that. It’s just weird to me that people are expected to handle all of this administrative crap when they’ve lost a loved one. It doesn’t really make sense.

On another note, I have some good news! I ordered a new camera, and it should be arriving today. I am so excited about it. I finally made the plunge into the dSLR world, and I got a Canon 30D. I also ordered some accessories and lenses to go with it which all arrived days ago, so I’ve been very anxiously awaiting the arrival of the camera itself, which I ordered from Dell with stackable coupons. It was a decent deal.

Canon 30D

I am very much looking forward to learning how to use it, since I had really topped out with my beloved Canon G3 and G6 cameras. I sold my G6 to WF, who is starting to really get into photography. It’s so cool that she enjoys photography so much, because now I have a fellow girl photography buddy! Too bad she lives so far away. I think we’re going to go on a photo safari on our trip to Chicago in July while JSW and LS are at the baseball game. That should be fun.

Well, I’m going to get back to work. So glad it’s Friday!
