This morning I woke up way too early for my haircut appointment. After getting my ends trimmed and hearing my stylist say “Fabulous…I love it,” I did a little shopping for the wardrobe pieces I need for my commercial shoot. I only had about a half hour at the time so I hit one store — The Gap. Big mistake. It was quite possibly the most depressing fitting room experience of my life. After hearing several times in the last week or two from friends and coworkers that I look like I’ve lost a lot of weight, and I “look great”…I was not feeling the love from the khaki capris and green tank tops I tried on at The Gap. They made me look horrible! And I had to wear a size up from the size I thought I was (which is also the size I gave the production coordinator for the wardrobe stylist).
I was horrified.
I didn’t realize I was that lumpy.
After a pretty bad freakout at the mall, I headed to the new coffeeshop where I’ve been handling the marketing/advertising, special events, and art coordination. Today was the opening reception for the artist whose work is currently showing at the shop. It went really well! His boyfriend’s two-man band played an acoustic set during the reception, and it was great. I actually had to pull all the patio chairs indoors because so many people turned out.
After the reception, I went to the mall with one of my best friends who is visiting this weekend from Houston with her hubby. Her sister (who lives here) met us, and they were very nice and went to a few stores with me as I once again attempted to find some capris and a tank top that would not make me cry.
I found some suitable capris at Banana Republic, but I have to go to another location tomorrow to pick up the pants that are on hold for me in my size in the right color. But the capris are very flattering and comfortable. What I do not understand at all is why I wear one size at Banana Republic and another (bigger) size at The Gap. They are owned by the same freaking company! What the heck is up with that?!
I think it’s a conspiracy to make women buy more expensive clothes.
And that, my friends, is really messed up.
As if we don’t already have enough sh*t to deal with as females.
And on that note…goodnight!

I’m sure that you aren’t lumpy at all! First, don’t ever judge yourself by Gap clothing. I know this is going to sound really snobby, but they aren’t couture, honey! *haha*. Secondly, vanity sizing is RAMPANT in the clothing industry.
Hang in there, at least you found something suitable
.
Thanks! I think vanity sizing should be outlawed.
My gf had a bad day because of those Gap khakis…for the same reason
