I’ve been using GiftBox to keep track of gift ideas for friends and family members, and I really like it a lot, especially since a basic account is free. With a basic account, you can track up to three different holidays for as many contacts as you’d like, so I’ve set up Christmas and Birthdays so far. I don’t know yet what my third holiday will be, or if I’ll even need a third.
You can pay $19/year for unlimited holidays.
You can track gift ideas, gifts you’ve bought, gifts you’ve received, and more. You can also include notes for each idea and URLs to other sites like review sites or sites to purchase the item. You can e-mail your own wishlist to contacts, which I wish was more socially acceptable because I’d love it if all my friends put together a wishlist and just told me what they want this year. I know it takes some of the fun out of shopping, but let’s face it — everyone would rather get a gift they really want than a Capodimonte platter that will never see the light of day.
Another neat feature is that you can keep track of gifts to return and when you have to return them. You can also set reminders for return dates and holidays.
There are a few features I’d like to see, including the ability to save an idea without a price associated with it, or with a zero price. I’d also like to see a total of all the prices for a holiday, so you can see what the total damage is going to be rather than just by person. A budget feature would help too…something that could take your total target for spending and help you manage your buying around it.
Even without these extras, GiftBox is a simple, useful tool — and it’s free! I recommend giving it a try to see if it can help you maintain your sanity this holiday shopping season.
