charlie and the chocolate factory

Not sure how I feel about this movie. If you haven’t seen it yet, and you’re like me and hate hearing anything about movies in advance, you may want to skip this post.

Charlie was a doll…the kind of little boy I wanted to just hug and take home with me. I really liked the first part of the movie and the story of his family…I felt that the film did an excellent job of making me really like them. I was rooting for Charlie.

But once they entered the factory, things just got a little weird. The whole sad dad storyline was odd to me. The bratty kids got what they deserved, but the Oompa Loompa song and dance numbers—while enjoyable and catchy—were kind of eery too.

Maybe I don’t remember the original well enough. Was the original that weird too?

Anyway, I’m glad I saw it because now I don’t have to wonder. But I just can’t figure out how much I liked it.

Hmph.

August 10, 2005 - 6:34 pm larissa - Looks like we saw this on the same day. I think the original was just as weird (for its time) but w/o some of the flashback-backstory. I was entertained though, and pigged out on popcorn (which is half the point of the movies to me).
