That’s right…today’s my dad’s birthday. He probably won’t ever read this, but if you feel like raising a glass to my dad in honor of his 58th birthday, I’m sure he wouldn’t mind.
It does not seem like he is 58! I just realized how old he is when I had to do the math for myself, using his birth year. It’s amazing how quickly the years go by once you become an adult. My mom’s birthday is in eight days, and she’ll be 58 too. We were going to get together for a cookout this past Sunday, but they decided it would be more convenient to do it this coming weekend and just celebrate both their birthdays at once.
Did you have a good 4th? I went to my friends Keith and Ashley’s house
for a good old-fashioned cookout and dog party lite. It wasn’t really a
dog party, per se, but whenever you get four little dogs together,
running around and begging for food, it’s not far from a party in my
book.
We played a neat game called Scene It, and Guy and I somehow managed to
win. I think we all kinda got lazy at the end and just ended the game
with one final question that I think I got right. I can’t remember. My
point is that it was actually a really fun game, with some really hard
questions and some really easy questions about movies. It’s played
using a DVD for questions and movie clip clues, and playing it in Keith
and Ashley’s media room—complete with a projector and a nice white
wall—was super cool.
Afterwards, Kona got dropped off at home before heading to the secret
fireworks viewing spot that I discovered last year. We totally could
have arrived 10 minutes before the fireworks started and still had
plenty of time to park and get a good spot. But I didn’t know that so
we spent some time waiting for it to get dark, playing Bejeweled on our
Treos. The show was awesome!! I love fireworks. LOVE fireworks. There
were some neat effects that I hadn’t seen before, so that made it a lot
of fun. Now that some of the smaller fireworks are legal (although I’m
not sure how I feel about that!), I am totally planning a blowout
fireworks display for my birthday. Why not?
I went to the new Ikea today at lunch. It makes me want to sell all my
stuff on eBay, live with the fam for a year, pay off all my debts, save
up a bunch of money, and then buy a cool loft and totally outfit it
with Ikea everything. That place is so cheap! And the quality of their
products is surprisingly good, given the low prices. I was also
impressed that they had several styles…it wasn’t all super-modern
metal and white plastic stuff.
Ohhhh…I could take a nap right now. I’m glad it’s a short week. Yay for holidays!
