for better or for worse

I just read the comic strip “For Better or For Worse” for the first time in years. The main characters have actually aged! I never really thought about comic strip characters aging since most never do. I’m not sure how I feel about it. I mean, I actually think it’s really cool that the strip is true to life, but it’s also a little depressing. Surrounded by Snoopys and Cathys and Garfields, seeing those greying characters pick out a new car is at the same time both endearing and a jolt of reality I’m not sure I was ready for.

But kudos to Lynn Johnston, the artist/author. I’m glad I flipped to the comics today, if for nothing more than the fact that it made me think about life, and all its joys and sorrows, once more than I otherwise would have today.

July 2, 2005 - 12:34 pm El Gray - I've always read FBOFW when I read the comics, even though it's usually not hi-larious or anything. I've always been impressed for just that reason-- the lady has really stuck with that family through the years, and I think it's cool. Same goes for Luann, but I'm not gonna admit to reading Luann. But I do.
