sunday evening

So it’s been a decent weekend. Last night Guy and I went to see my friend Ann in Noises Off, a play about actors putting on a play. It was really entertaining and Ann was, as usual, fantastic and beautiful. We hung out afterwards, snagging our free Wendy’s Frostys (that junior Frosty cup is the cutest thing ever…so teeny!) and chowing at IHOP. Ann and I split a cheeseburger, fries and French toast. Funny, huh? It was great seeing her…it always is.

Today I took Kona to Petsmart to have her anal glands expressed. Yes, I said "anal glands." Apparently dogs have anal glands that build up fluid, and little dogs often have problems with the glands getting full. This is usually why they scoot their butts across the carpet. Kona has been scooting like mad for a while now, and I had a few people tell me she needed to be "expressed," so I actually thought "how bad can it be?" and tried to do it myself. I found plenty of sites online that gave very detailed instructions on how to do it, but I must not have the knack for it because I couldn’t get anything to, well, express.

While we were waiting for the vet at Petsmart, I had no fewer than six or seven people stop by to say hi to my cutie pie pooch and comment on how chubby she is. I have to give you the background that at least two or three times a week I have total strangers tell me how fat my dog is. Like I don’t realize that she could lose a few pounds. Would you ever tell a person you have just met that they are chubby? Probably not. They probably know they are chubby. Well, I have gotten really tired of people asking if she’s pregnant, how much I feed her, etc. that I really had to hold myself back from clubbing someone over the head today. Actually, one woman made a comment and I didn’t feel like hurting her. Maybe it was the way she said it…I could tell she really thought Kona was a doll and she laughed and said she was "plump." That has a nice ring to it. "Plump" sounds a lot better than "fat," doesn’t it?

Anyway, I put Kona on the scale while we were waiting and she is around 13 pounds, about two pounds heavier than I thought. She really could lose about four pounds, probably, but the thing is that I am not the only person feeding her. You see, Kona is a joint custody dog. Her dad keeps her for a week, where she gets to play with her stepsister Bitsy and get lots of love from her dad and her stepmom, and then I keep her for a week. I found out a while ago that her other parents were feeding her people food, so we had a little talk about it and I think they are more conscious of it now. However, I still don’t control what she eats or how active she is when she’s not with me, so I think that makes the comments even more infuriating since it’s not entirely my fault. We all share some of the blame, I’m sure. They probably feed her people food but I probably let her lay around and sleep more than she should. We were on a workout plan for a while where I would come home for lunch and walk her around the neighborhood.

But then it got hot.

I bought a nifty water bottle carrier that comes with a collapsible water bowl for Kona so I can start the walks again and not worry about her getting too thirsty.

So she got her glands expressed and I ran into my friend Frank, a old co-worker who is also a photographer. It was good to see him and we made plans to get together when I get back from vacation.

Kona got her nails clipped and I bought an awesome Kong toy that has managed to totally wear her out back at home. Yay!

I spent a while epilating my legs with my nifty new epilator. I will have to go into more detail on that some other time. Guy just got back home and we’re going to work out in our apartment complex’s fitness center, which finally opened last week…only five and a half months after we moved in! :P
