designer jeans, and why I like them

So I found myself wearing the same pair of jeans every day, with another pair of jeans that I really don’t like thrown in for laundry days. I needed to get new jeans, and being the cost-conscious girl that I am, I started my search at the more thrifty stores like Old Navy, etc. I quickly realized that those jeans just are not cut for my kind of body, and after trying on jeans at three or four stores (including braving the deafening club beats and gaggle of teenagers at Abercrombie & Fitch), I decided to hit the designer jeans section of Bloomingdales.

See, I used to think, "Why on earth would somebody pay over $100 for stupid jeans? Come on…they’re just jeans!" However, that was before I tried on my first pair of designer jeans. I was in Los Angeles for work, and I had arrived a day early so I had time to kill. I went to the mall and tried on some Joe’s Jeans, and I instantly fell in love with their flattering shape, interesting wash, and super-comfy stretch. Oh yeah, and how they made my butt look. I still wasn’t sold on the concept of spending $100-$200 on jeans, so I made a note of the style and color and hit eBay when I got home, scoring a pair of the exact same jeans, in my preferred size, for about half price. NWT, too. (That’s "new with tags" for you eBay newbies.)

So on my recent trip to Bloomingdales, I fell victim to the lure of designer jeans. I bought two pair, planning to try to find them on eBay again. However, this time I bought Seven Jeans, and apparently fake Sevens run rampant on eBay. So I decided to keep them since I’d been holding out on buying new clothes for so long. I visited an alterations shop to get one pair hemmed. They do an amazing job, reattaching the original hem to the bottoms when they’re done. I can’t wait to get them back. :)

So what have I learned? Designer jeans really are worth their price, don’t buy Sevens on eBay (unless you can be sure they are authentic…if someone is selling them for $40 or less they are probably replicas from Asia), and I should go into the designer jeans business…those designers must be making a killing with their $200 jeans! I went out for my friend Lydia’s birthday on Saturday, and the bar was full of designer labeled behinds.

Anyway, just wanted to share. I never thought I’d be one of those girls, but I am and I like it. :P
