my kind of music

I really like all kinds of music. I know a lot of people say that, but…seriously, I really do like all kinds of music. I used to throw raves, so I of course love electronic music. But on the other hand, I was listening to my favorite country station on the way home today and heard an announcement for a massive country concert with many of my favorites…and was disappointed that I probably don’t know anyone who would want to go with me.

While I can nod to Snoop and sing along with Kelly Clarkson, there is really one genre of music that I think is really my kind of music. As in, the kind of music that would be the soundtrack to my life. It speaks to me. It makes me feel like me, if that makes sense.

Tift Merritt

I’m not sure what this genre is called, but it’s a kind of folky, rock-y, country thing. Some artists in this genre include Alice Peacock and Deana Carter. Well, I discovered a new singer who I love love love! I had never really heard of her before, but I was watching the Grammys (my annual opportunity to actually learn who sings all the songs I hear on the radio, since I don’t really "follow" music or watch MTV)…and one of the artists nominated for best country album caught my ear. I went to the iTunes Music Store and looked her up, and after sampling her album I decided to buy it.

I’m really glad I did…it’s awesome. :)

Here’s a sample…"Stray Paper," which is the opening track from Tift Merritt’s album Tambourine.
