not quite what I expected

So this has been a weekend of unexpected things.

Yesterday, Guy and I went to Best Buy to measure the Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer to see if they will fit in my laundry room. According to the measurements on the Best Buy Web site, they might be too big, so I wanted to take a measuring tape and see for myself.

They are quite large, and I’m not sure if they will fit. I don’t want to order them unless I know for sure that they will fit okay, so I might hold off on that decision for a bit.

While we were there, we browsed the TV section. I am in love with some of the rear-projection HDTVs. I think I like them even better than the flat panels. Alas, my budget does not allow for either of those categories, so I am looking into getting a 32″ Toshiba or Sony for the living room. I’ll probably order it from my discount shopping service if I can get a good deal.

I’ve been eyeing the Toshiba SD-H400 Digital Media Server for the past several days, so I wanted to see one in person at Best Buy. It’s a combination progressive scan DVD player and Tivo Series 2 recorder. Lo and behold…it was only $278 after a $100 mail-in Best Buy rebate, so I bought it since the lowest I’ve found it anywhere else (including my amazing discount shopping service) is $350.

Well, I got home and realized I had totally forgotten to use the 10% any single item Best Buy coupon I had! Since it would save me nearly $40 (since I walked out paying $378 before tax and have to mail in the rebate to get the additional $100 off), Guy and I headed back to Best Buy to claim my 10% savings. The woman at customer service adjusted my total and credited my card, which—after the rebate—brings my total for the item to $240. That’s nearly $60 cheaper than the Tivo Series 2 box alone!

I totally had not expected to buy that yesterday, but it was such a good deal on something I was already planning to purchase at some point, I just couldn’t pass it up.

After the Best Buy marathon, Guy and I got ready for dinner. We hadn’t gotten all gussied up to go out in a while, so it was nice to do that for a change. The restaurant was lovely, and the food was very good. They had a fixed-price menu, so we couldn’t select from the entire menu, but we were both pleased with what we chose. We both had a shrimp cake appetizer and shrimp coconut soup. I had a sea bass filet, and he had a seafood curry dish. For dessert, I got a green tea custard, and he had coconut ice cream. Oh…and we got a bottle of Hogue Riesling, and it was very, very good. When it was really cold, it tasted like apple juice! I’m not a big wine drinker, but I like Rieslings because they don’t really taste like wine.

The valet parking experience was weird. They treated Guy like royalty because he drives a sportscar. They didn’t give him a ticket and told him they would take really good care of his car. When we left, they got his car before helping the other couples who were outside before us. I’m not sure I understand the philosophy there, but whatever.

When we left dinner, we went to the grocery store to buy all the fixings for smores. By the time we got back, though, I crashed passed out and totally slept for hours. So we didn’t make smores or set up my Tivo box like we had planned. I woke up in the middle of the night and felt really bad, like I was going to puke. I only had a little over two glasses of wine, so I think it was either the wine plus something I ate, or my medication, or something…it totally did not make any sense that I got sooooo intoxicated off so little wine!

So last night didn’t quite turn out how I expected either.

Oh well…it’s been a nice weekend anyway…low stress and lots of Kona. I can’t believe it’s almost Monday already, though…phooey!
