Happy new year.
Last night was pretty low-key. I finally got my emissions done after work and ran a few errands. My place is coming along, if you can call it that. When I stopped by to pick up some things the technician was making good progress on ripping up the rest of the floor…hooray.
I met up with Guy and we went grocery shopping for the ingredients to do a fondue dinner at his place. The trip to the store was a little glitch in the evening as he saw someone he’s currently having problems with. Once I recovered from being left in the store so he wouldn’t have to run into her (especially with me, which was part of the problem), the evening turned out okay.
Dinner was really good. We made a cheese fonduewe kinda cheated and used the stuff that comes in a pouch, adding some wine to give it more flavor. We dipped french bread and apples, as well as some fresh veggies. Following the cheese fondue was the main course of chicken cooked in a wine and chicken broth mix, with exotic dipping sauces we bought at the store. Finally, after we decided to ditch the rest of the chicken (we had enough food to feed about four more people!), I went upstairs to get pretty while he melted down the chocolate for the dessert fondue. We had milk chocolate with coffee, cream, and vanilla, and it was delicious with fresh strawberries and bananas. We could barely eat any of it, though, because we were so full!
Guy’s best guy friend came over with his girlfriend, and it was good to finally meet him as I’ve heard a lot about him from Guy. We drank some wine before heading up to the Guy’s roof to try to watch the fireworks around town. His place is situated just so that I could hear a lot of fireworks but didn’t see that many of them. The funniest part of it all was that just a few minutes after midnight, we started hearing firetruck sirens all over the city, no doubt rushing to put out fires started by amateur pyrotechnics.

the city is on fire! no, that’s just my slow shutter sync setting!
After deciding to go back inside to get warm, we played Karaoke Revolution, which is like Dance Dance Revolution except you’re singing. It was one of the presents I got Guy for Christmas because I know how much he enjoys Dance Dance Revolution and his Playstation 2. I was actually really impressed with the game. Each player chooses a character and an outfit. There are two rounds of singing in which each player chooses a song from a list of classics like “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” by Pat Benatar and newer tunes from Avril Lavigne and Hoobastank (yeah!). It was hilariousas you sing, the crowd reacts to you and dances, and the game scores you on how well you match the song. It was a fun game to play and I’m glad everyone was such a good sport about it! Singing in front of people is usually not at the top of most folks’ list of favorites.

Today, I actually woke up at a decent time (around 10 a.m.) but then eventually went back to sleep and ended up sleeping until 2 p.m. After helping Guy clean the kitchen from our mess, I headed back to my place (where I am now) to drop off some stuff and get out of Guy’s hair. It smells really bad here…the glue from the hardwoods gives off some terrible fumes. So I’m going to pack up some stuff after I post this and get outta here as quickly as possible, before my brain turns to mush!
Happy new year! It really doesn’t feel like January 1 to me. I’m not sure why. Maybe it will hit me soon. Maybe not.
Maybe it doesn’t really matter!
